Postcard from Koh Lipe, Thailand

Koh lipe, island located in the southern Thailand’s Satun Provice (very close to Thailand-Malaysia border) is no secret to most tourists. Famous for the amazing snorkeling spots with vibrant coral reefs and white pristine beaches, you could say it is indeed a Paradise island.

Anyone who wants to embrace the small island feel, get away from the crowds and dive deep head first in a turquoise blue water should find

Koh Lipe on the top of their travel bucket-list..

Perhaps it’s the inconvenience of getting there that has made it possible for the island to remain some of it’s natural charm.. There are several ways to travel from Bangkok, the fastest would be a short 30 min flight Bangkok to Hat Yai, followed by 2 hour bus and 1 hour speed-boat which, I know, sounds and is a lot but all the travel will be worth it once you find yourself floating in the perfect turquoise blue water somewhere along the coastline of this small charming island. Are you ready to dip in?

Here are some things and tips for you to know:

The main transport used on the island is tuktuk and it is a set price of 50tbt that will get you anywhere. Use that after a long exhausting day in the sun, but my recommendation is to walk! There is one main street ‘walking street’ where you will find all the restaurants, bars, souvenir shops and tour guides that will help you with booking buses, boats, cars and planes for onward journey. It’s the only ‘hectic’ and busy part of the island.. There are three main beaches on the island – Sunrise beach, Sunset Beach, Pattaya Beach. Take the advantage and walk around the coast of the island.. There are parts when it will seem like it’s the end of the beach, but climb a few rocks over and find yourself on the other side, on a secluded quite beach.

If you are up for a little more of an adventure- walk all the way to the tip pf the island – there is a secret beach. https://goo.gl/maps/VB5ysx9V4UB3dSDt6 You’ll be walking till the end of the road, down a dirt road into what seems like a dead end, but follow google maps and trust when I say this – there is a beach at the end of it and most likely

you will have it all to yourself!

You can also do a half-day trip or rent a taxi boat and visit some of the neighboring island (no more than 10-15min away).

Koh Lipe is part of the Tarutao Marine National Park which contains 51 islands in total, so there is a lot more still to be discovered..

What more?

I couldn’t help but feel like I’m in one of those picture-perfect postcards from the exotic Seychelles islands. Huge rock formations along the coast, the pristine clear turquoise blue water and the lush greenery forms an incredible landscape; hard to believe it’s in Thailand..

I caught myself thinking how pleasantly surprised I am that there is still a paradise island in Thailand; and yes it might be out of the way, but “take the road less traveled and that is what will make all the difference”

p.s. Make sure to take a break from that exhausting sun and sea exercise and get a relaxing coconut oil massage on the beach, doze off in sleep with the sound of the waves crushing
